In their last class of the spring semester, Michael Wendt's horticulture students participated in a tree climbing competition at Village Grove Park in Thiensville. Nine men and three women participated in five competitions: a challenging work climb up a 150-year-old burr oak, visiting four stations in the tree canopy; a speed climb, racing to the top of a box elder; the throwline, setting lines in different heights of a silver maple; an exhausting footlock, racing 30 feet up a doubled rope; and a knowledge-based knot test. Guest judges were Eduardo Medina of Davey Tree and Lee Schacht, a 2005 graduate of MATC.
